Shuswap Lake Resort is home to the region’s first certified green building.

Shuswap Lake Resort Development is excited to announce the beginning of a new standard of development for the region. The lakefront property developers have hired the experts at EcoCité Environmental Developments to assure that the Shuswap Lake Resort Lakefront project will meet Leadership of Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. This will be the first development in the area using these environmentally sensitive standards.

The development at Shuswap Lake Resort, neighbouring Scotch Creek Provincial Park, will be primarily made up of town homes and a marina. The green features include geo-thermal heating and cooling, energy efficient building design, environmentally sensitive finishes, and a highly efficient bio-waste facility to provide the project with on-site tertiary treatment of waste-water. A third party evaluation by a LEED professional will ensure the development meets key standards of environmental design including, water and energy efficiency, waste-water management, sustainable use of materials and resources and healthy indoor air quality.

“The successful completion of this project will leave the community with an example of how development should happen in environmentally sensitive areas like the Shuswap and further a field,” explains Christopher Holmes of EcoCité, “We will demonstrate that sustainable development is possible here.”

Upon the completion of the first phase of development, anticipated for early 2006, the development at Shuswap Lake Resort would be the first LEED certified project in the region, setting a high standard for future developments. The LEED Canada Rating System recognizes leading edge buildings that combine design, construction and operational practices with healthy, high-quality and high-performance features to reduce negative environmental impacts. Building occupants, purchasers and community members are assured of superior building performance by an independent review and audit of the project’s construction documents by experienced design professionals who follow a well-defined and transparent methodology.
