Provincial Parks in the Shuswap

A very fashionable park in British Columbia's Southern Interior is Shuswap Lake Provincial Park. Every year, thousands of visitors mainly from British Columbia and Alberta encamp there. Shuswap Lake Provincial Park is located on the north shore of Shuswap Lake's main arm, in the community of Scotch Creek. From the town of Salmon Arm, drive about forty five minutes north to reach the park. From the city of Kamloops, the park is about 1 hour's drive east. The massive encampment is filled with a picnic space for day use, around 275 camp sites, and a big beach of sand and gravel.

Shuswap Lake Park is situated on an old delta of Scotch Creek. The proof that this was one time the site of First Nations settlements is found on the remains of semi-subterranean pit houses, called Kekuli, used by Shuswap First Nations peoples. The park's Nature House contains a Kekuli model renovation, plus the archaeological ruins are located inside the park boundaries.
